Policies
Policies could vary slightly by training center, so please check with the training center where you hae registered for specific details relating to their policies.
Sometimes, for whatever reason, an individual may not be able to participate in the course they were scheduled for. If this happens, you have a few options.
Individuals may be provided one opportunity to be rescheduled into another motorcycle safety course without being required to pay another course registration fee. In order to be rescheduled, individuals must notify the training center where they were registered prior to the start of their course that they are unable to participate, or immediately after the missed course. All reschedules are subject to the availability of another course opening and must be completed in the current training season. There is no guarantee that the training center will be able to reschedule individuals into another course by the end of the training season. Individuals who cannot be rescheduled or elect not to, may request a refund. The training center reserves the right not to reschedule individuals.
Individuals who miss their original course are encouraged to report to the designated training center as a stand-by student.
Individuals who are late for, or miss a session are not be eligible for rescheduling under this policy.
Individuals "counseled out" of a course (asked to leave by the Instructors) because of poor performance may be provided one opportunity to be rescheduled into another class, but could be required to pay the registration fee again. Rescheduling arrangements must be made through the Training Center Manager of the center where the individual participated in the course and are based on availability.
MVA Test Rescheduling Policy
Individuals who do not pass any Motorcycle Safety Program rider course knowledge skill may be provided one opportunity to retake these tests. Re-tests should be completed within 30 working days of the original motorcycle rider course’s ending date. Individuals interested in a re-test should schedule an appointment with the Training Center Manager and all re-tests must be completed at the training center where the individual participated in the course. Individuals whose names do not appear on the Training Center Manager’s re-test appointment schedule may not be tested. All re-tests must be completed in the current training season. Individuals scheduled to be re-tested must present their proof of course participation.
The Training Center Manager is responsible for scheduling all re-test appointments and reserves the right to cancel or postpone any or all of the scheduled re-test dates.
The course registration fee will not be refunded to an individual who participates in any portion of a course.
The training center may refund the course registration fee for a motorcycle safety course only if the individual has not participated in any portion of it. The individual must submit a written request for the refund with the original copy of their course registration fee receipt before the end of the calendar year in which the course was scheduled. Be sure to check with the training center for the exact refund policy and procedure.
Stand-by Option
Anyone interested in taking the rider training course may try to register as a stand-by student. Stand-by students should report to a training center approximately 30 minutes prior to the scheduled starting time of a class. Stand-by students are selected by a "lottery" system to fill any available openings.
The Training Center Manager may give preference to those individuals who are not already registered in a class. If selected as a stand-by student you must be prepared to pay the registration fee and participate in the course. Payment can only be made by credit card or check card. We accept MasterCard, Visa and American Express.
All classes start promptly at the times indicated. If you are late for the first session your spot may be given to a stand-by student. If you are late for any subsequent session you will not be allowed to continue. There is no grace period. The MVA and its training center sponsors are not responsible for traffic, weather or any other condition or circumstance that might cause a participant to be late. It is the participant's responsibility for being on time for each class session.
Use of Personal Motorcycles
Participants in Basic and Alternate Basic Rider Courses should not ride their personal motorcycle to class unless the motorcycle is street legal and the operator is properly licensed. Individuals operating a motorcycle with a valid learner's permit must report to the course instructor with their accompanying rider upon their arrival to any scheduled class session. The accompanying rider must also return at the end of the class.
The accompanying rider must be a licensed motorcyclist who is over 21 years of age and has been a licensed rider for at least three years. This individual can be following the permitted rider on another motorcycle, or in a car within a reasonable sight distance.
Individuals in violation of this policy may not be permitted to participate in the motorcycle safety course.
