MVA EMAIL ADDRESS COLLECTION TOPS TWO MILLION
Nearly Half of Agency’s Customers Have Provided an Email Address
GLEN BERNIE, MD (April 29, 2014) - The Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) announces a milestone in that it has collected more than 2 million email addresses representing almost half of Maryland MVA customers. The MVA began asking customers for their email address in 2011 to provide customers with a convenient, environmentally-friendly electronic option to interact with the MVA. The figure confirms that Marylanders are beginning to embrace MVA’s innovative strategy to use technology to further enhance customer service.
“This is a major step forward in changing the way people do business with the MVA,” said MVA Administrator Milt Chaffee. “We want customers to think of online first when interacting with the MVA.”
From August 2013 – April 2014, 709,416 customers who provided an email address received a vehicle registrations renewal notice via email from the MVA. The email included a link to the MVA online renewal option and 277,153 customers renewed through that method. While the transactions saved the customers’ time allowing them to complete the transaction from home, it also saved the MVA $137,655.32 by not having to print and mail a paper notice.
In July 2013, the MVA expanded the use of email by sending driver license renewal notice by email in addition to USPS mail. Going forward, the MVA is continuing to look for ways to keep customers informed about their MVA products through email.
