The following forms of payment are accepted: Cash or check made payable to: Motor Vehicle Administration. Checks must have an imprinted name and address and include your driver's license number and home or work phone number. Visa, MasterCard, and American Express are also accepted.

Effective October 1, 2012, the Maryland MVA will begin the conversion of Non-commercial driver’s licenses and identification (ID) cards to an 8-year period of validity. ID’s for individuals 18 years of age and older will be valid for a period of up to 8 years; ID’s for those under the age of 18 will be valid for up to 5 years.
The conversion to 8-year noncommercial driver’s licenses and photo identification cards (ID Card) will be implemented over the next few years. During this phase-in period, individuals renewing their driver’s license or identification card will receive a product with a validity period ranging from 5 to 8 years. Because the expiration date of the driver's license or identification card is determined by a computer generated selection process, the fee required for renew will vary. The fee is prorated (for each year the product is valid) based on the validity period of the driver's license or identification card which may be for a maximum of 5-8 years. Note: Commercial driver's licenses will continue to be valid for a maximum of 5 years.
Note: Individuals who apply for a Limited Term driver’s license, learner’s permit or identification card, will continue to be issued a product with a period of validity equal to their duration of lawful status in the United States. Their product fee may be prorated due to their duration of lawful status in the United States, however, the fee will not be prorated for a learner’s permit, identification card, or driver’s license issued to individuals under the age of 21. The CDL learner’s permit fee cannot be prorated. These individuals must renew their MVA product in person and they will NOT be able to renew using the mail, MVA Kiosk, or the MVA web site.
