The MVA runs a program to match the deceased person's information with Maryland MVA records. If an exact match is found, the MVA updates the person's record with the code identifying the person as deceased in order to prevent identity fraud.

Return the license or identification card as soon as possible either in person to any MVA branch office or by mail to the Administrative Adjudication Division (AAD). Be sure to include the individual's date of death. This is a safety measure that helps the MVA prevent identity fraud.
