Request Method

Procedure

1.  When you apply in person for Driver Services product (e.g., license renewal).

As part of the transaction, the Customer Agent (CA) will ask you to read and answer the voter registration questions displayed on the licensing system screen. At the end of the transaction, the system will print a voter registration application (form #SBE-03-202-5) when you:

• answer that you want to apply to register to vote; or
• report a change of address.

After you are given the printed voter registration application form, complete and sign it, and then return it by one of the following methods:

• Mail the form to the State Board of Elections (address is on the form);
• Drop the form in an MVA voter registration drop-off collection box; or
• Give the form to an MVA employee.

2.  When you return the Maryland Mail-In Driver’s License Renewal Application (form #DL-179A or #DL-179B)

Upon receipt of your renewal application, the MVA will tear off the bottom portion if completed (Maryland Voter Registration Application) and forward it to the State Board of Elections.

Note:

Only certain customers can renew their driver’s license by mail; all other persons must visit an MVA office to renew the license.  For more information, see Renewing a Noncommercial Driver’s License.
 

3.  By returning a Maryland Voter Registration Application form to an MVA office.

Upon receipt of your completed and signed voter registration application, the MVA will forward it to the State Board of Elections, or to your local board of elections.

Note:

    There are several variations of this form provided by the MVA:

• Maryland Voter Registration Application (form #SBE-03-202-1) - printed by the State Board of Elections and placed in MVA offices.
• Maryland Voter Registration Application (form #SBE-03-202-5) - printed by the MVA when you apply for a product (see Request Method #1).
• Maryland Voter Registration Application (form #SBE-03-202-3) - included with the Change of Address card mailed to you when you report a new address.

When you report a change of name and/or address using the Application for Maryland Change of Address  (form #VR-154)
 

If you report a change in your name and/or address using this MVA form, the MVA will forward a copy to the State Board of Elections.

When you report a change of address through the MVA’s e-MVA Online Store or at an MVA kiosk

If you report a change in your address using either application, the MVA will return to you by mail a Change of Address card.  Included with the card will be a Maryland Voter Registration Application (form #SBE-03-202-3) that you can complete, sign and mail to the State Board of Elections.
