MVA Announces Thanksgiving Week Schedule
"Don't Wait In Line, Go On-Line"
GLEN BURNIE, MD (November 19, 2009) -- The Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) wants to remind customers that all MVA Offices will be open for regular business on Monday, November 23, 2009 through Wednesday, November 25, 2009, the day before Thanksgiving.
MVA will close its full-service and express offices on Thursday, November 26, 2009 in observance of Thanksgiving Day. All Vehicle Emissions Inspection Program (VEIP) stations will also be closed. All MVA and VEIP stations will be closed on Friday, November 27, 2009 in compliance with the statewide budget reduction plan. In addition, MVA and VEIP stations will also be closed on Saturday, November 28, 2009. This action is being taken to help address a projected state budget shortfall of more than $700 million for fiscal year 2010. MVA and VEIP stations will reopen and routine operations will resume on Monday, November 30, 2009.
Customers are advised that the days before and after a holiday are especially busy, and they are encouraged to "go on-line" to complete their MVA transactions. Many MVA transactions can be completed via the Internet (www.mva.maryland.gov) with eMVA. They include vehicle registration renewals and changes of address. With eMVA, a variety of routine transactions are available electronically and they can be completed without the need to "wait in line" at an MVA office. To reach eMVA and the available electronic transactions twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, log on to www.mva.maryland.gov and click on "Online Services." You will then have access to the following transactions:
- Renew Registrations
- Obtain Duplicate/Additional Registration Cards
- Replace Titles
- Change Your Address
- Obtain Driving Records
- Obtain Temporary Registration
- Purchase Background Scene License Plates
- Purchase Personalized License Plates
- Purchase County Pride Stickers
- Download & Print Specific Forms
- Get Information on Administrative Flag Fees
- Obtain an Extension of your Vehicle Emission Inspection Program (VEIP) Test Date
Customers can also complete transactions via the MVA Interactive Voice Response Phone System by calling 1-888-834-7344. This system can handle the renewal of a vehicle registration and the payment of an Administrative Flag Fee.
This holiday season MVA wants to encourage customers to use the alternate methods to complete their MVA transactions from the comfort of their home or office and not visit an MVA office unless it is absolutely neccessary.
