State Leaders to Commemorate 100 years of MVA Service

A Century of Cars Highlights 100th Anniversary Celebration

GLEN BURNIE, MD (June 3, 2010) -- The Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) will celebrate its 100th Anniversary with a commemorative ceremony and Centennial Car Display on Saturday, June 12, 2010 at 12 PM.  The celebration and Car Display will take place at MVA headquarters, which is located at 6601 Ritchie Highway NE, Glen Burnie, MD.

Participants in the commemorative ceremony include, Maryland Department of Transportation Deputy Secretary Harold Bartlett, MVA Administrator John T. Kuo, and a representative from the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development.

Also attending are former MVA administrators including Anne Ferro, who is the current Administrator of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration of the U.S. Department of Transportation and Ron Freeland the current Executive Secretary of the Maryland Transportation Authority.   The Executive Director of the Maryland Aviation Administration Paul Wiedefeld will also be in attendance.

The Car Display will feature 100 cars, one from each model year since 1910.  There will also be a motorcycle display, with a motorcycle representing each decade since the creation of the MVA.  Highlighting the MVA's role in safety, there will be vehicle and driver safety displays and demonstrations, including a motorcycle safety simulator, an ignition interlock demonstration, and an inter-active alcohol perceptions demonstration.

In addition to celebrating 100 years of service to Maryland residents, the MVA will also be unveiling the new standard issue plate commemorating the War of 1812.
