MARYLAND UNVEILS NEW DOCUMENT INFORMATION WEBSITE 
MVA Document Guide prepares residents for new driver license and ID card requirements 

Glen Burnie, MD (December 17, 2012) – The Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) has launched a new page on its website, mvadocumentguide.mva.maryland.gov, to prepare Marylanders with new driver license and identification card requirements. The guide helps residents determine which documents they will need to bring with them to an MVA branch office when they apply for a Maryland driver's license, learner's permit, commercial driver's license (CDL), or identification (ID) card.

The MVA Document Guide will enable residents to:

• Determine if they will need to visit an MVA branch office.
• Create a personalized checklist detailing documents they will need.
• Obtain contact information showing where to get required documents.
• Browse a list of MVA branch offices in their local area.

The new link on our website will make it easier for all who apply for an MVA license or ID card to ensure they have the documents necessary to comply with Maryland’s identity, residency and lawful presence requirements.

Residents are encouraged to use the MVA Document Guide not only to identify the documents they need, but also to find out branch offices location and when they should visit an MVA branch office.  All Maryland residents wishing to obtain a new license, legally change their name prior to their renewal date, or have had their licenses revoked cancelled or refused should visit an office with the required documents ready for processing.

“We want the driver’s license and identification card process to be as easy as possible for everyone in Maryland.  The new MVA Document Guide is intended to be convenient and helpful,” said MVA Administrator John Kuo.

If you are simply renewing your license, have not changed your name, are not revoked, have not had your license cancelled or refused and it is not expired for longer than one year, you may not need to visit an MVA branch office.  Every other renewal of a Marylander’s license or ID card can be done by mail, online or at an MVA self-service kiosk.  However, for those individuals who do not fit into those circumstances, some preparation may be required and the MVA encourages you to visit the website to keep from having to make a second trip to a branch office.
