Renew Lives When You Renew Your License!
Through the MVA's Organ Donor Program, Marylanders can give the gift of life and health to someone else by donating organs or other tissues after death.
Look for the statement on your license application or renewal that says: "Please check if, upon your death, you desire to help others by becoming an organ donor." If you want to be a donor, check the "Yes" box. You may also fill out an organ donor card. Make sure you present the application or card to the clerk when you apply for or renew your license.
A record of your intent will be registered with the MVA, and a donor designation will be placed on your driver's license or identification card. When you check "yes", to become an organ donor, specific personal information such as your name, date of birth and address are submitted to the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene and maintained in the MD Organ Donor Registry. Your decision to be an organ donor can be changed by you at any time. For additional information on organ donations ...
It's important to tell your family about your wishes, because the donation is usually discussed with one's next of kin. Show them your license and discuss your plans in detail with them.
