The MVA has a procedure designed to assist victims of robbery with replacing their Maryland license, permit or ID that was stolen, including:
- Noncommercial learner’s permit
- Commercial learner’s permit
- Provisional driver’s license
- Full noncommercial driver’s license
- Commercial driver’s license (CDL)
- Temporary noncommercial license
- Moped permit
- Identification (ID) card
If you filed a police report and have a copy of the report and the report number, you may contact the MVA’s Executive Customer Ombudsman for information. If you lost your license, permit or ID card, you do not need to report it to the MVA. Please refer to MVA’s procedure for: Obtaining a Duplicate License, Permit or ID Card.
What do I have to do to get the MVA’s assistance in quickly replacing my stolen license, permit or ID card?
First, file a police report in the jurisdiction where the robbery occurred. Next, contact the MVA’s Executive Customer Ombudsman; the police representative should tell you how to contact this person either by phone or e-mail.
The ombudsman will ask you for certain information, such as your name, police report number/jurisdiction, and the MVA office where you wish to apply for your duplicate product. The ombudsman also will tell you what documents to bring with you to obtain a duplicate product.
- There is a fee for the duplicate license, permit or ID card that will be issued.
